We arrived safely last night after a 5-hour layover in Copenhagen. We have accommodations through Air B&B right in the heart of Montmatre. I am really enjoying having an apartment with a kitchen to use while on vacation. We'll definitely save money on breakfasts.
This is the view from our bedroom window:
Today, we have been true tourists and hit several of the major sites. We started with l'Arc du Triomphe, walked to Le Tour Eiffel, detoured to Le Tour Montparnasse and, finally, a walk around Montmartre and La Basillica de Sacre Coeur.
For those of you planning a trip to Paris, if you want to actually take the elevator up the Eiffel Tower, you will need to make a reservation. Unfortunately for the Ds, all the reservation times during our time in Paris were..already...reserved. So, instead of taking the elevator up the Eiffel Tower, we went up the Montparnasse Tower.
Never heard of the Montparnasse Tower? No worries, I hadn't either until Brother D mentioned it. It is a skyscraper that offers beautiful views of Paris, without the lines or reservations. We were able to take the elevator up and have a very nice lunch for 15 euro. It has been cloudy today, so the pictures aren't super clear, but I still enjoyed it.
Eiffel Tower and Champ du Mars to L'Ecole Militaire
The Montparnasse Cemetary - Simone de Beauvoir, Samuel Beckett, Alfred Dreyfus, and Pierre Larousse are some of the famous people buried here.
Notre Dame
The Luxembourg Palace and Gardens
We will be going to dinner in about an hour. The Parisians eat quite late. Most restaurants that cater to the locals don't open for dinner until 7 or 8pm.
Tomorrow, we will go to Versailles!
